We welcome as members individuals and organisations who care for Hammersmith
As a Member, you will receive regular updates outlining our activities, giving you the opportunity to participate in consultations and campaigns. We'll invite you to our Awards Evening and AGM, and other events. Members are always encouraged to take an active part in the work done by the committee – come along and see if you can help.
The membership year runs from 1st Jan, and only costs £6 for individuals, £8 for couples or families, and £15 for organisations. Additional voluntary donations always welcome.
This a news update which has recently been sent to our members : If you are not receiving these regular bulletins, but would like to, please contact the Chairman, Tom Ryland – See contact details. If you are not a member of the Hammersmith Society but would like to join, please contact Rosemary Pettit, Membership Secretary.
The Hammersmith Society tries to fulfil its roles as a linking organisation for the many and diverse local groups within the Hammersmith area and disseminating information on local projects and initiatives. Do please keep us informed of any issues where our support would be helpful.
This is my first ‘electronic’ newsletter since taking over as Chairman from Rosemary Pettit. My first task is therefore to thank Rosemary for her excellent and unstinting stewardship of the Society over the last three years. She will be a hard act to follow – so you may be getting fewer of these for a start! Needless to say Rosemary is far from retiring and has taken on the task of Membership Secretary and will hopefully boosting our numbers. Please encourage your individual members to join the Hammersmith Society : I attach a Membership Form but this can also be found on our website – See below.
This is going through a major update although not quite finished yet. You can check who are the current officers and members of the committee, you can read details of all recent AGM’s and the Environment Awards. In the next few days it will be possible to see the various organisations to which we are affiliated one way or another. These include many local residents associations. You will also be able to catch up on the major consultations Council and otherwise : See below for a couple of the most recent ones re the Town Centre/Flyunder and 20mph Speed Limit.
We are keen to recruit new members to our Committee. There are so many projects coming up – including White City, Old Oak Common, Hammersmith Town Centre. A knowledge of town planning/architecture is not essential – but would be extremely useful. If you think you might be interested, why not come to one of our meetings and see what you think? We are currently using The Barn, a private meeting room at the back of the Cross Keys in Black Lion Lane. Meetings start at 7pm and we try to finish by 9pm. The next meetings are scheduled for 20 July, 14 September, 19 October and 7 December. Please contact Tom Ryland
Our recent AGM at the Lyric Theatre on 11 June was a great success. We had a more than capacity audience in the New Cinema which forms part of the new facilities. Members were offered an opportunity to view these on a guided tour. A very heartfelt address about the difficulties of achieving this and the vision for the educational programme was given by Jessica Hepburn, Executive Director of the Lyric. You will be able to read this on this website under ‘AGMs’ together with the Chairman’s report and details of this years ‘Environment Awards’.
